I know of tests state that WA lenses dont have the best sharpness and it has all these barrel distortions etc.

But i cant decide what is good between the sigma 10-20, or 12-24, tokina or the canon one?

I been looking/searching but there are a lot of threads to go through.

Reason i ask is that my cous is in HK right now and i did put an order in for the sigma 10-20, but it was out of stock at the camera shop we normally go to , so what did i go and do? go get a damn 70-200 f2.8 IS instead lmao ;)

i would still like to get a wide angle of some sort, or maybe even the sigma 8mm lens? anyone used this? i would like a special wide lens of some sort, maybe a nice fish eye, just for the occasional shots at weddings even

I had a Tokina, loved it to death, cannot bring myself to selling it despite having the 5D now - it is sharp, contrasty and CA's are well controlled. It is built like a tank too.

For an EF-S supported body, Canon 10-22 is best.
In 3rd party, I recommend Sigma 10-20. see my gallery for landscapes with this lens.

I was favouring towards the EF-S mounted lens, saying that, the sigma 10-20 is an EF-S lens no?

Wow the pics are great on your site, the colours are really saturated etc., You use a polariser for the images on the siggy 10-20?

Sigma can be used on both EF and EF-S. where Canon is only for EF-S bodies like 30d/400d.

Thanks, yes i used polarizer on some of pics there. And polarizer is made by Sigma too.

i thought the siggy 10-20 is a DC lens, which is for 1.6 crops only?

It is a DC lens made for crop bodies. But it can be mounted on 5D/1dsmk2/1dmk2N. the only problem will be vignetting.

Ken Rockwell did a comprehensive review on a few uwa lenses. Take a look here.

I love my 10-22 but I hear the Tokina 12-24 is a great buy too.

Agreed, absolutely above and beyond type of review, he covered absolutely everything.

The Canon is too much for me, but deciding from his review, I want either the Tokina or the Sigma, I'm leaning towards the Tokina for build quality...it's superb but a big downside is it has bad flare and CA.

according to that review, it states Canon 10-22 is the best followed by tokina... is the canon WA lens really that good?

It's about $200 more in price...I'd say check out reviews on the Canon and decide for yourself. I haven't looked for any just cause of the price.

I vote for Sigma 10-20. It's an excellent lens.

All Sigma DC, Tokina DX, and Tamron Di-II lenses will work very well on the 10D/D30/D60 bodies too; EF-S will not.

As for Rockwell, I wouldn't put too much stock in his review, and neither is his conclusion accurate.
