Lovely colors¡¡¡

Thank you :)

Beautiful colors you got goin on there Trevor, nice and sharp too.
Did you use WB Shift?

Thanks Frank. :) I used Tungsten WB as I thought it suited the 'no light' scene

Very cool! What did you use to get such a long exposure?

Thanks. :) When I took the shot is was pitch black, so 16 minutes wasn't a problem - apart from the fact that it was very windy and bl**ming cold!

That is a lovely shot of a wonderful beach - we have spent a lot of time up there walking on that beach and next time we're up, going to have a go. You must have a lot of patience?!:D

Thank you and welcome to the forums :D
Yes, its a lovely beach, one of many in the area. It does require a bit of patience, although a good book and a flask of coffee helps!
Make sure you come up before June or after July, as it never gets dark enough to take shots like this. ;)

Sorry, what I mean't is what equipment did you use to get the long exposure? My 350D only goes up to a shudder speed of 30 seconds, did you use a remote or something? Or multiple shots?

My mistake ;)

I used the timer remote TC-80N3. My wife uses the 350D and has to lock the exposure and use a stopwatch. HTH :D

Thanks for your welcome but have actually been on the site for quite some time - using my husband's username (Coatsie) - and have decided to get my own.

We have been up to Dornoch in March and spent New Year there but next time definitely bringing a flask to try the photos!

Oh well, the welcome still stands, albeit in your new guise :D

If you come up at New Year, what will be in the flask? ;)

Well, seeing that I am actually Scottish but living in England it would have to be whisky!!! Or Vodka, Rum, whatever..............

Would I get the same effect trying the photo technique just in an open area of land?

Ah, definitely a true Scot

Yes, you should get the same effect. The key, for me at least, is the wideangle and getting plenty of sky in the shot. Try to avoid including bright lights in the frame, but a little light pollution may actually help. From my limited experience it does seem to enhance the colours in the sky.

If I see someone on Dornoch beach, half cut and taking photos, I'll know who it is :D

I had my lovely wife with me for company and we tucked ourselves out of the wind with a piping hot cup of coffee and looked at the stars. Its not often one can spend time just looking at the sky, it was very uplifting.

Thanks Dan_S :D

What he doesn't tell you...is that his wife found him propped up by a rock on the beach singing "I'll Take the High Road" with a bottle of 21yo grasped tightly in is hand and the camera release in his other hand. Thinking ahead she had brought a flask of coffee with her in the hope of sobering him up so that she wouldn't have to carry him home again! :p :D ;)

Congratulations Trevor - it's good to be reassured that some people can still recognise quality when they see it. Well done.
