taken in mid february, we just happened to be standing in El Capitan meadow when a big cloud decided to wrap itself around El Cap.

Very atmospheric Pete. The lighting of the second one in particular reminds me of one of these B&W film noir detective films from the '40s.

Detective film? Could even be a horror movie :D

Nice shots! I think you've captured the mood in a great way... and it works really well in B&W.

Oooo fantastic moody looking shots Pete, excellent.
Are they HDR? If so, is the B/W conversion done before or after the HDR procedure?

That first one is great, Pete. It's definitely worthy of a poster.

Both are outstanding, Pete. They remind me of some of Ansel Adams' shots.

thanks everyone.

Frank, neither of them are HDR, although the first is a blend of 2 shots exposed for highlights and shadows. Due to the nature of infrared light the shadows are extremely dark and contain very little detail unless a seperate exposure is taken.
Also, infrared light is beyond the visible light spectrum, therefore contains no colour, so there's no real B&W conversion required, just contrast adjustment.

Hi Pete;
#1 is a cracker of an image, but seems to have a tad of a green tinge in the upper right corner... Probably just my screen, or eyes, or both!!!
Nevertheless, very evocative.
Cheers;
Lee
