Went to northern Wisconsin and shot this Eagle from a boat (fishing) with the 400mm. The Eagle was interested in a Pike we threw back that was not in good shape. C&C welcome:lol:

Come back for Christmas, there'll be hundreds along the river, sitting on the ice near an open hole, fishing. And they are already use to people.

My folks live near Milwaukee. I'll have to try that. (Missippippi River?)

Yup, the river is about 2 miles from where I live in La Crosse. Quite a drive from Milwaukee, but you could make the round drip in a day.

From the south end of this town, which is spread out along the river for miles, it becomes very sparsely populated with several sets of locks and dams between here and Prarie Du Chein, 60 miles or so south. Below each dam, and even in shallow areas of the river where the current keeps the ice open, you will see whole flocks of Bald Eagles standing on the ice like so many Penguins. They apparently are either fishing, or hoping for one to jump out on the ice for lunch.

Especially below the dams, where the water is always open, people actually get out there in boats and fish all year long. Not sure how they do it, but these birds are not shy. This is the first year I've had a good camera and lens enough to shoot them, so I will be going down there often. There are spots along the highway where you can pull over and park, and walk or stumble down the bank to get close enough to count feathers and that's my plan. :D
