Hey guys,

after a long time of debating myself if i should buy this lens or not, i have finnally got my copy yesterday. i think i have read every single thread in this forum about the 24-70L and i real tons of compalints and tons of love posts. i have decided to go outside and take some shots and see what comes out. all the shots were shot handheld just like i do in real life and all of them were shot in L Jpeg with NO PP except for 100% cropping.

out of camera images:

f/2.8, ISO 800, 70MM, 1/250

alright, now for the conclusions:

based on these results, i am very happy. the tests are not scientific by any means but since i don't normally shoot in a lab or only shoot batteries, this real life test is all the matters to me. i am sure that as i get used to the lens even more, the results will get better but even now on the first use, i like it very much. also keep in mind that all of the shots that i posted had NO PP what so ever and that they were all shot using a 1DmkII which is known to need some PP to get to the sharpness level of a 20D/30D...

Congrats! It's a beast, but it does its job day after day flawlessly!

Not my favorite lens (that's the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS) but it's certainly my most-used.

Even on standard zooms? I thought that was just for telephotos! :p

Good luck with the new lens! 24-70mm is a great working range for a walkaround lens.
