Anyone know the answer? I was not able to find it in a search. Some nice looking MTF charts.

You already own it. It's the one on the 300 f/4 IS, yes?

My (unconfirmed) take is that it is the same one as the 7-2f4 non-IS. I recall reading that the external dimensions are identical.

I've handled this lens, it is EXACTLY the same externally except for the little bump with the IS switch buried in it. You have to look three times to see the difference ( well, I did anyway!)

What I can't remember for sure is if this bump is in the way of where a ring would go, my instinct is that it is exactly the same in that area as the non-IS lens.

Unfortunately no. I was wondering why the 300/4 IS ring was so much bigger, then I found out that they changed the rings in between the old non-IS and the new non-IS. So it wasn't my imagination when my 300 IS was fatter than I could have sworn it was after handling the old 300/4 non-IS.

I saw on Canon-Australia that the new 70-200 f/4L IS has a new ring, Canon Tripod Ring A II.

Regards,
Aero145

PS: But prolly would the normal A(W) ring fit, or just the black A(B) if you don't wanna spend 30$ more and get black colour.

If so, I stand corrected.

If thats the case its the same one I use on my non IS lens.

Well then, if that's the case, I now stand correct. ;)
