Photographing landscapes isn't what I normally do, but "by heck" it is challening and therefore loads of fun. These are from a recent trip to NZ and mainly straight out of the camera with just a little sharpening and run throught Mikes Framer Script. I'd appriciate any feed back on technique, framing etc etc ... thanks

1. Couldn't get the angle to get the rainbow to point in to the pool of light ... must drive faster next time :o

2. Difficult to balance the light but without the reflections on the water the shot look "normal"

3. Basically the same shot as #2 only I waited for the sun to hide behind a cloud and went for a deeper horizion

4. I should have been a foot to my right so as to get the road centre lines on the second section to line up with the first

5. Not exactly a landscape, but the look the seagull was giving me made me smile.

Did you use a CP filter?

Well I ain't all that far from where those shots are taken. They're looking pretty decent. Maybe experiement with some more angles and sun positions, you've got a beautiful landscape to play with.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Thanks gents ... No CP Filter, just a skylight to protect the glass more than anything else.

The camera (20D) or the lens (sigma 18-200) didn't like the 1st photo. There is a lot of graining at the top between the grey and white clouds.

I would recommend getting one for landscapes with water and high sun

The one at the bottom "facing north" was greatly helped by a CP filter. Just my thoughts.
Still a great series. Whats the sunsets like there?

Great effort there Dave! As Tony/Weka2000 suggests -- use a CP if you haven't used one.

Btw, here's a thread where more nutty Kiwis hang out in: GKPE (the Great Kiwi POTN Expedition)

John;)

Thanks for the tip. The colour depth in yours is much better than I've achieived even after trying to tweak them up in raw shooter.

Right now I'm in Newark in Nottinghamshire - we fly on the 23rd. I updated my profile and turned off the computer and found I needed something to do while worrying about everything at 3am UK time :o

9 days and it is all over .... I'll report on sunsets then
