Excellent shots! As a football mom who has purchased >$500.00 in pics from the town photographer this season of my son's games because I wasn't able to attend due to pregnancy and distance, these shots are cream.....I'm finally able to attend the last game of the season taking all my photo equipment and attempting action shots. I have my 70-200mm IS f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.8 just in case I get frustrated with lighting. Wish I had time to put together your "flash gadget". Great creativity....

As a former player speaking, you are so dialed in that you never see a flash go off from the sidelines. Just like I never heard the crowd whenever I dropped back to pass, no matter how big of a crowd. I heard it before the snap, but it went silent to me afterwards.

Could you use a bogen super clamp with flash attached to an umbrella/flash hot shoe clamp attached to the monopod?

Hey OP, will try your setup this Friday. I'll be using "M" f/2.8 1/250ss probably and was thinking for flash use HSS in manual and adjust down the amount of flash?? what do ya think? I don't really know how to use the flash that well yet-if at all-lol.

Bogen superclamp works fine and you can screw the flash onto the stud that came with it

I used this same set up this past weekend and it worked out great. It does give funky shadows on bleachers if you shooting it with them in background.

I'm wondering why it has to be up side down though; don't you want the light up into the players faces? I'm going to try both, but I think it you leave the flash normal orientation and almost flat as far as head angle, you should be okay. Dunno who dug this up, but it's what I've been looking for. The Stroboframe is just soooooo huge and gets in my way.

Won't the f2.8 blur them out?

No the 2.8 does not blur them out. I will try to grab the photo from work to show you. The shot that is really noticeable was one of the kicker and holder for a point after kick. The section of bleachers was empty so big black shadow on silver bleacher showed up really well.

I'm wondering why it has to be up side down though

Makes it easier to route the cable straight to the flash with out doing and hard angles. The flash head is still in a flat configuration just is the main body is upside down

Maybe a totally dumb question, but where can you get the thumbscrew that attached the flash cord.flash to the l bracket. Can you get it from a hardware store or is ti special?

Yeah this thread is old, but right up my alley at this point with them #$%^ demon eyes.

It came with the off-shoe cord.
