Hi Guys
I tried Peachman's cleaning solution on page one of this thread and my L's all now seem a little lacking in contrast and a bit slow to focus. Is there a vital ingredient missing - I wonder?

Ray, Ray, Ray,

Can't you do anything right? Did you forget the hydrochloric acid application to the lens and all its plastic parts? Come on now. I'm very busy at work and you're just wasting my time. ;) In fact, place all lenses and cameras in a bucket of this acid. Once it's done bubbling, they'll all be good as new.

And Peachman, if you're gonna give a recipe, you can't go leaving out the main ingredient. :)

I'm going to have to research that statement. I have a 120 pound dog with low hanging ones. I'll let you know tonight if there's any smudges, fingerprints or scratches.

While there have been some excellent suggestions here, I'm afraid no one has yet to address whether the suggested cleaning method should change for the weather sealed vs. non-weather sealed L's. Surely the length of time in the drier, autoclave, or (my personal favorite) pressure cooker would differ.

Well, I find it important to drill some 1/4 inch holes in the body of the weather sealed ones to allow the same ventelation as the non-sealed while in the dryer and the drying time stays about the same...remember to fill the holes w/ set screws when you are done...

What a bunch of amateurs ! Peachy, that's so wrong !
Some weather sealed lenses become so only when coupled to Series 1 camera bodies, such as the 1DsMkII. Therefore, when cleaning a sealed lens in an autoclave, the lens must be mounted on a 1series body.

I'm beginning to doubt your truth and veracity. You told me, in private, that it needs to be exactly 12 holes, 1/2 inch deep, not a quarter. Are you hoping my lenses stay dirty? I'm not going to put up with misinformation.

I was going to say "let the dog lick it." Apparently, on a t.v. talk show here in the US, a celebrity said she lets her dogs lick the diaper rash on her babies because a doctor told her the saliva had natural curing powers. Gross! Anyway, I thought maybe it may have natural cleaning powers as well. :(

was that before or after the dog cleaned out the cat box:(

I suspect a Canon salesman in the midst of this, as there is some very important information being left out. White lenses require a seperate final rinse in a solution of exactly 64.275% sodium hypochlorite suspended in deionized H2O, while their black counterparts require that final rinse to be in a solution of 48% RIT #15 Black Dye and 52% technical methanol. Drying and storage remains as previously mentioned.
