I don't clean my glass all that much, but when I do, they get a blow first (Canon rocket blower), then they get the Canon lens solution with lens tissues or microfiber, whichever is more accessible to me at the time. For travel, usually I take only a microfiber lens cloth. But I blow off as much as possible first and often don't do much beyond that. There you have it.

Ahh dammit you just ruined the thread!

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Aww man, you are hardworking... you really bother to go the extra mile, too much work for me though!

At the end of the day I just pitch the whole lot with the dirty clothes into the washing machine. One cup of detergent, press START, and leave! :p

I can assume that you have one of those combo wash/dry units?? Look, I find that if there is any moisture left in the lens after the dry cycle, I put it in a big ziplock bag and put the vaccum cleaner nozzle in the bag, secured with an elastic band and let it suck for a few houre...I know, you'll say this metheod sucks, but thats the nature of it,....

I simply use pec pads and eclipse. It's always worked for me. Never messy, not hard to carry.

When I'm feeling more forgiving, bad breath and microfiber cloth.

... cloth goes into the washing machine when dirty too. :p

I do the same thing, but make sure to separate the white L glass from the black. I add a little extra bleach for the white L's.

I find it best to use your friendly doctor's office autoclave... Make sure that you steam all your lenses that you can fit inside at the highest temperature and pressure...This type of steam cleaning will always get them sterile enough for all your needs...

If you don't have access to the autoclave, than use you home kitchen pressure cooker, this of course will take longer and might require that you stand by and keep an eye on it, for at least a couple of hours...

The rouge in the jeweler's rock tumbler, is an alternative, but I've never tried it...

Well Ron, in terms of L collecting, I think you are still an infant. However, had you kept all of those bricks, might have been an apprentice by now.

BTW, how do you clean your camera's CMOS? Take it with you when you have a dental appointment...... they can do some good clean air jetting on it.

Ahh no, just a simple cheap bachelor pad washing machine. Separate dryer, so I just tumble dry on HOT for 90 minutes. The dang things sure make a lot of noise clanging around though!

Ahhh, I see.. the proven method for getting rid of fungus and other nasties.

Brilliant idea!

(and for the serious: rocket blower is always first line of defense, so much so that I forget to mention it.. but bad breath and microfiber really does work better than anything else I've found so far. Forget the silly lenspens, they leave residue.)

well i know im still an Lprentice in your book. but i just use a giottos rocket blower, lens brush, and microfiber cloth. i also have some solution but only use that when i get some seriously nasty stuff on the lens. which only happened once. and that was a bunch of little costa rican kids in this village that kept touching the filter on my 50 (filters are a good thing).

I've heard panda urine is the wonder optical cleaner, the urine of the female is particularly good. It has been known that photographers using panda urine have been molested by male pandas while in mountainous forest regions of China, Tibet and in zoos, this is one of the theories as to why photography is so popular in Asia :p
