I agree with you, but its good at the same time to know this is a design flaw and not a copy flaw.

Sorry to argue, but how is that good? I'de think it'de be better to know it was a bad copy, so you could try to replace it and get the issue fixed. Hehe, just messing with you though, hehe.

Well if its a design flaw, ill know never to buy a lens without a red ring again. Ill also not make a plonker of myself with my supplier sending it back as faulty when in fact its just the lens.

I found one at f/1.4 and taken from about 20 feet away (ISO 800, 1/250s):

Weird, everything looks in focus, yet you say it was shot at 1.4 Perhaps it was becasue the DOF was not too large difference wise between the lady and piano?

Here's the exif from Smugmug (for an image shot from 20 to 30 feet the DOF should be 2.6 to 5.9 feet at f/1.4 with a 1.6 crop camera):

assos' pictures are weird...they look overexposed from 1.8 on. (the couch is blown out)

jagwire's shot looks alright, not razor sharp, but not as OOF as my car.....

Would be good to see Spiderman at f2 too.

I bet it would be a lot sharper.

Yes, and maybe with a bit of +EC to make it clearer?

with the cat?

those are probably 10 feet away....

those pics looked okay IMO...and he was stopped down to 2ish

The cat was only a couple of feet away (it's not that big!)

Re the shed/shack picture, the leaves around it are not in focus so I'm still confident it's softness and not OOF.

If those 1000s of people could answer a poll asking whether it's sharp and has CA at 1.4 then this would settle the debate!
