Will humidity effect my lens?

hi there; just got me new macro lens- Sigma 105mm 2.8 Macro... now i was planning to go to the butterfly farm tomorrow to take some pics but i just though; it's basically giant green house and its quite warm and humid in there- so will that affect my lens or camera? will be grateful for any feedback asap.. lol thanks for looking

It shouldn't damage anything.

If its cold outside (and the gear is cold) then you will get condensation when you go inside the green house.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but if the above conditions are true then you can either warm up the camera&lens a bit before going inside or seal it in a plastic bag and open it after a few (10-20?)minutes in the green house.

If you have any concern, place your gear in a container with some silica gel packs over night after your excursion. Silica Gel used for drying flowers works well and is re-usable by drying in an oven for an hour at 250F.

A couple of years ago I was caught for a few hours in steady and blowing rain. After returning to my hotel I placed my camera and lenses in a large plastic bag with about 4 ounces of Silica Gel. Next morning and ever since all works well.

I don't know why this bugs me so much, but for the record, in your thread title it should be affect, not effect.

you are totally right, sorry about that; lol it usually bugs me when other peeps makes that mistake... my bad lol

I spent a month in the jungles of southeast Asia and the humidity was extremely bad, did not have a problem at all. just give you camera a few mins to acclimatise and you will be good to go.

my new canon 100-400 L IS frequently becomes useless due to condensation here in steamy oaxaca mexico ... and i do not have a/c !! totally suks
