I own a 20D and am seriously considering getting the 24-70 2.8 but I read somewherre that because of the lens weight it tends to feel unbalanced on a 20D compared to say a Mk1. For those of you who use the 20D/24-70 combo, do you find this claim to be true? Is the lens good for The 20D?

It isn't that heavy, however the length wouldn't be very ideal to me on a 20d. For some it might be better though. I guess it depends on if you need to go wide or not

If you don't like the feel, you can always just put a battery grip on your 20D and make it feel more like a 1 series camera :)

i have the 20d and the 24-70 is my walkaround...so therefore i believe it's the best choice for the 20d most of the time FOR ME.

some say this lens isn't heavy but name one in this range that's heavier. you can't do it. 20d plus grip and 24-70 weighs about 5 lbs.

so.......the 24-70 is a brute but i don't have a problem balancing it with the 20d....whatever that means :D .

What grip do you use and would you recommend it?

I use my L or non L glasses on all my bodies with no problem, heavy issue isn't a big problem to me at all.
I used 70-200IS on my 350D sometimes, so that doesn't mean i have to use my L only on pro bodies.

whatever grip canon sells for the 20d is what i use. i did have a problem with my grip killing my batteries but canon replaced a washer or something in the grip and i've had no problems since i got it back six months or so ago.

yes, i would recommend the set-up. i won't guarantee you'll like it tho :D .

the length of the 24-70L would be too short for me on FF for a walkaround. 24mm would be perfect tho.

There's people walking around with 100-400L on 20D as their long walk-arounds and I don't see them complaining about weight or unbalanced. If you think a zoom's heavy, then just go to the gym a few more times a week and pretty soon you'll even be able to walk around with a 300+ 2.8 prime! :)

i think to necessarily equate strength (or the lack of) with comfort is a fallacy.

i.e., i think you can be slight of build and be comfortable with a heavy set-up and vice versa.
