I'm learning that this is a great portrait/low light lens.

Does anyone also use it for landscapes?

Please post pics if you can.

In a recent issue of Nature Magazine, I saw an amazing landscape shot taken with the 50 1.4. I know you asked about the 1.8, but it could have probably done just as well.

I would not necessarily say that because the 1.8 isn't as sharp as the 1.4 (even at those smaller apertures I believe) and that the 1.8 has focusing issues, but I would assume it's possible.

It's ok, I'd rather use over the kit but sometimes you just need to be MUCH wider than 50mm.

Few 'landscapes, skyscapes waterscapes' taken with the nifty:

With a crop body there's a bit too much focal length for landscapes.

This is from my experience with my 17-40 - I never went above around 30mm. If I needed any more, it would be a lot more, so I would use the 70-200 range.

I think you really need the versatility of a zoom for landscapes.

look here

That was a really nice shot i took with the Nifty 501.8 on the XT. When people say it isnt wide enough for landscapes, they are talking about certain (very wide) situations. It all depends how you want to frame it.

I have taken a ton of good cloud/sunset/forest/fireworks/etc. with it.

it is a very sharp lens at f8 or so on a tripod, and will well shoot anything you point it at. I have the 17-35 that i use for the really wide stuff, though.

I use a 50 1.4 for landscapes quite frequently on my 5D. If you want to see some, just say so. It's my favorite for 'scapes.

the 50mm on a 1.6x body is pretty far from a landscape. Try the 10-22mm if you want to get into that realm... It is super nice for a walk around lens though!
