I stumbled upon this U2 tribute band called The Joshua Tree (external link) while at the L.A. County Fair a couple weeks ago. Their manager, seeing my camera, encouraged me to take all the pictures I wanted, so I tried my best, even though I'd never shot a live performance before. I already posted a couple shots of their drummer in the drummer shots thread (the second and third images in my post). Here are some of the rest of the guys:

Pics are good, don't know about their lighting and sound... were they in the same ballpark as U2 vocally etc?

The lighting was definitely less than ideal. It was in a large, open-air tent at night on a fairgrounds, with a few colored lights overhead above the stage.

As for their sound, they had the U2 sound nailed. In fact, that's what caught my attention. I was heading for the gate with the intention of leaving for the day when I could have sworn I heard Bono in the distance, so I had to investigate, and followed his voice to the tent.

very famous band in Ireland and nice captures given the lighting.

#2 and #4 are excellent. I haven't shot in a tent yet! :-)

Really? A small, local Los Angeles area band is very famous in Ireland? That's pretty cool. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks, Dwight. You aren't missing anything. The tent itself wasn't really bad, but it would have been nice to have better lighting and all those fake trees on the stage were pretty annoying, too.

BTW, if anyone was wondering, all of these were shot with a 24-70 f/2.8. The closeup of the drummer I posted in the other thread was with the 100-400.

Yes, ive seen some of their cds in various stores and somebody in my family has them in their collection. They are eerily close to the real thing at times.
