My 50mm f/1.4 has been playing up for the last 2 weeks, occasionally it just wouldn't want to focus - can't hear or feel the lens moving back and forth to focus. The only way to get it do come back to life was to turn the manual focus ring back and forth and then it will spring to life again. So its been taken to jessops (still has canon's warranty) - its just a waiting game now to see how it takes to fix it  I use this lens alot to shoot photos of my daughter (19 months) indoors and to be without it a a long time i feel i little sadden :(

Anyone had a similar problem with their usm lens?

Well if anything else fails, there is a rebate available for the lens :) I know it sucks to have to buy another one... if it comes down to that, but at least you would save some money.

mines a peach, no probs so far it is my most used lens, before i bought it i only had 1200 shutter clicks, i am firmly passed 6000 now! hopefully it will continue to serve me well. Its clear yours is under 1 year but how new is it exactly?

It's about 8months old, trying to use this as an excuse to buy the sigma 30mm f/1.4 as sometimes i find the 50mm a bit too close (i know i can use my feet to stand back - but sometimes in a small room you can't)
