Ok, so taking some advises from other people, I switched from XT to XTi. And it got delivered yesterday! My first impression of XTi was very good. Slightly heavier than XT, so it had more of "manual" feeling to it than the P&S. I was still undecided with the lenses, so I just picked up a kit. But as I played with it more & more, I feel that the kit is not enough as a walkaround. So here's what I really came down to.

I have the XTi, and for now, I'm gonna keep the kit. I'm getting a EF 75-300mm. Then a dillema hits me when I try to decide for a walkaround....

EF 28-105
EF 24-85
EF 28-135 IS
EF 17-85 IS

The walkaround will mostly be used for portraits & lIf you can help me choose or at least give me your insights, it'd be awesome. :)

Canon Rebel XTi (400D)
EF 18-55mm
EF 50mm 1.8
EF 70-300mm III

None of the above.

Consider a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and a Canon 70-200 f/4L (or Sigma 70-300 APO DG) instead. Buy good glass now and you won't have to replace it later.

Go for the Tamron 28-75, it compliments your kit lens.

I would recommend either the 28-135 IS if you want more reach on your walk-around and gets better portraits imo. Or the 17-85 IS if you do more wide angle shots. Also, the 75-300 (non IS) is fairly soft, which some might find dissappointing.

Great shots are like great parking spaces... if you're not quick, it's gone!
