I noticed some strange specs in some pictures I took today. Is this dust or something on my sensor? Does it need cleaning? I used two different lenses, and the specs were there for both!

They are only noticible when the at about F22 or greater... does it make sense that they wouldn't be as notibile when the lens is open wider?

TIA

Unless you shoot a lot at f/22 I wouldn't lose any sleep over them....you can give your sensor a quick shot with a rocket blower if it really bugs you.

Reasonably small amount of dust at f22. Use a rocket blower but maybe give some more time for a proper wet cleaning.

Thanks for the quick responses! I didn't realize that the dust would be more visible at lower apertures... so was worried when they showed up.

Thanks

How do you shoot higher than F/22? Most digitals seem to have difraction that high.

Interesting.... I didn't know what this was until I googled it just now. This explains why the results of my f/22 and higher shots were just OK. :D

Yes I am a beginner :D but learning lots from this site. Thanks

That's what my pics of white paper/blue skies looked like until Friday afternoon - I went to the dealer, he gently blew on the sensor with a puff of air from a can (screen over sensor in case somebody gets picky).

Now just in case someone rightfully makes a comment about blowing propellant from the can onto the sensor, he gently picked up the can without shaking, gently aimed the small plastic straw nozzle at the sensor and barely touched the button. The reason that many consider this to be bad practice is that if the can is disturbed or shaken, the propellant can mix with the air and make a real mess. They NEVER tip the can or shake it, and they always move it very slowly and gently.

I will be getting a so-called rocket blower - I be more relaxed then. I shoot a lot at higher apertures if I can - f22 isn't unusual at all. I had been using a Tamron lens on a Canon A-1 that went to f32 (which I used quite often with ASA 400 film - pretty good dof).

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

I'm fairly sure that difraction is a lens phenomenon-- it should have existed on film as well. Presumably it just didn't show up on lower res film?
