I hope Canon doesn't board this bus........

Me too. Evidently, Sony fell into the "more megapixel" trap and the 828 is suffering some growing pains.

I think Canon could sell a whole lot of cameras by using less megapixels, but improving all the other aspects of their digicams.

Scott; I couldn't agree with you more, just give me a good 4 to 6 mg camera with a nice clean 8 to 10x optical zoom, with the ability to push the ISO to 800 without any loss of shapness and no noise and I'll be very happy. Oh Ya did I mention threads on the lens so you don't have to buy and adapter to put on your filters

I was in a Wolf Camera store yesterday looking to play around with a Digital Rebel or 10D (just for kicks...can't afford to upgrade from the G3 yet!)

The clerk said that the 10D was being discontinued and Canon was releasing a new 8mp dslr called the D80 in Feb or Mar.

Go figure!

John

The BIG PMA trade show in Las Vegas is only 30 days away. Watch for lots of camera news then.

I wish Canon and Microsoft would both do the same thing... stick with a product until it works the way it's supposed to work (you know, the way it's advertised!) 8-)

On the Canon, fix the AF and make the 420 flash work with it properly, give me just a bit more optical zoom and then LEAVE IT ALONE.

If companies make their product perfect that can't be improved, then they'll go out of business once everyone have one.

An interesting question. We'll have to dig up this thread in a month or two to see how well we guessed. Here's my take...

I'm thinking that the G-Series body style has run its course. My guess is that Canon will come up with something that looks like the old Pro90, more of a "boxy" look than the rangefinder look of the G3/G5. Sony has the new 828; Minolta has the A1. Nikon & Fuji have theirs, too. It looks like that style is in "style" now.

I'd like to see a 5 or 6 mp CCD (no more than that, please!) with a super-sharp lens. Say 28-200mm or so (like the Sony). Keep the Digic processor and the feature sets of the G3/G5 (especially the unique things like the ND filter).

OK, someone else's turn...

I think this one almost nailed it!!!

Here is my wish list:

1. 6 MP sensor...the 300D's like above. DiGiC Processor - keep.
2. Autofocus that is quick and fast.
3. Black Body.
4. Thread mounts on the front of the lens, so we won't have to buy
an add-on adapter to mount filters.
5. Keep the swivel LCD.
6. Ability to make use of 420EX flash's red light for autofocus.

Thanks for pointing me to this thread Pradeep. I see everyone's been here already. Your wish list looks good to me! I'd probably settle for points (1), (4) and (5) along with 10x zoom and manual focus via the lens ring rather than by wire.

Daryl

One more thing I would add is for a tripod mount on the bottom that is with the centerline of the lens. This would aid in doing panoramic photography. The off center tripod mount hole screws everything up.
