I have just sent my 100-400L off to Canon for alignment. Bought it used and the IQ is total junk as compared to images posted here from other copies. I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and how much it costs. They couldn't give me an estimate over the phone.

My on the spot recommendation, never buy used glass. Hold out for new. Think about it, the most common reason for selling a lens is cause your not happy with it. Nuff said.

Well, I'm curious anyway. I saw in another thread, someone paid $125 to have a Sigma calibrated. Just wondered what Canon might charge.

It's a matter of do I eat steak this week or mac and cheeze. ;)

What a coincidence!!! I was just going to post the same question. I'm in the same situation, having just bought a used 100-400 and pics seemed a bit soft on the long end.
Once you get a quote, could you either post it here or PM me?

I will post the cost here. Mine is on the way, UPS, and should be there some time this week. Then they said they will email me the estimate, and I guess, a final OK from me on the repairs.

I hope I live through the shock.

I have heard ( I think here) that the cost to repair a 100-400l is a set $299 plus parts. I don't think calibration is the same tho so I'm hoping it will be less than that. Where'd you send it to, Irvine?

No, I sent it to New Jersey. $300 for calibration is a bit steep though.
