We just got home from our annual pumpkin farm trip. It was another fun year, overcast skies and warm afternoon air. Fun stuff. I hope these don't lose too much clarity. They were tack sharp.

I was trying to get the exposure right because the sun wasn't out, but the orange was overwhelming. I did saturate a little and applied USM. No crop at all in these shots. I hope I'm improving. Last year the shots were all too dark. The 20D and 24-70L are amazing together.

Very sweet photos Suzy. I think you did well with the color & you definitely captured the moment. I didn't see last year's attempts but I like these :)

I like the second one too, but the first one tells the story, "I want THIS one". :-D All these pumpkin photos make me curious. Do you guys actually eat any of these things?

The little guy really wanted the pumpkin on the very bottom, but I discouraged this as all the pumpkins got pulled by the stems. The farmer almost fainted watching him, I think.:o

The only thing not so great about this farm is that it is right off a main street, so power and phone lines and streets signs are everywhere. Doesn't make for good portraits in most areas. But I think I really like photographing my children. I wish I could have photographed all the children there. Some parents didn't even have anything more than a camera phone. Oh well.

That is a fair question. The really orange pumpkins are definitely edible. So, I got 3 pumpkins yesterday, 2 for boys, 1 for dinner. I take the top off as if to do a jack-o-lantern. Take the guts out, saving the seeds for roasting. Then I put the pumpkin in a pan lined with aluminum foil and add a mixture of cooked rice (or noodles) 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup, 1 pound browned ground beef, a small bag of vegetables (usually peas and carrots), 1-2 cups water, salt and pepper, 1 small onion minced and sauteed. Mix this whole thing up and put in the pumpkin, cover top loosely with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I think this is the recipe for dinner in a pumpkin. If anyone has any additions or interesting ideas, please add.
