hiya....
got my g2 several months ago....great but....some of my images have hundreds of smalll white dots on them. intially just one or two, but now 20 out of 30 pics in one session. seems as if the sensor is not recording all the pixel information, as the dots seem to be individual pixels....it is not happening every time and seems to only happen on pics with flash, and i am reformatting the card each time i use it.......
maybe it is due to the heat generated by the camera?
canon said as i am using a 128 integral compflash card they wont do anything until i change it for a sandisk flash card, which theirs are....
has anyone experienced this type of problem? are sandisk cards ok? and sometimes it seems to select high saturation by itself?

can anyone enlighten me please!!cheers.............ian

Dont know what it is, but...

...to get rid of them, simply use the "Noise- Dust and Scratches" filter in photoshop with a setting of 1 pixel. You should find that they all disappear.

Again, not an explanation, but a pretty easy, quick and effective workaround. FWIW.

I was told that the white dots are called noise and they are apparently caused when the ISO is set to a high number. I think the sensors get overloaded.

No one gave me an explanation as to why I got "noise" when my ISO was set to the default number 50. I decided to look on this forum for an answer.

There must be a way to eliminate noise using the camera settings, filter lenses or something else so that you dont always need to use a file editor like photoshop to wipe out the white dots.

But what?

hiya....

the white dots are definitely not noise....that is coloured.... but my problems have been in a club enviroment, and i now think it could be caused by magnetic interference from speakers and the sound system in general, hence corrupting the image data... does anyone think this is posssible, or had similar experiences?

photoshop is ok for removing dots, but slightly softens the image, meaning adding sharpening hence more noise.......

my remote doesnt work....surely its dead simple to use??

laters ......ian

hi,

I also had lots of white dots on the odd pic (slightly overexposed at 1sec, F2.5, 200ASA), taken from a stage with lots of light show equipment around .... these dots even seemed to be in arrays (?).
So maybe your assumption about magnetic interference could be true!

You should wrap your camera with aluminium folio! Looks funny, but may work!
