I use the neck strap, but will often put it under my right arm and around my neck so that I can rotate the camera and use the battery grip easier...

Now to hijack a bit...

How do people prefer to use the strap when they have a battery grip? I was going to start my own thread for this, but came across this thread...

I use the same strap that came with the XTi, its ok. I mainly use for protection in case the camera were to slip from my hands.

I use the wrist strap 90% of the time and the neck strap when near water or perilous situations.

I hate the canon strap, so along with my 580EX i got an OPTECH strap from BH :)

I have a nice thickly padded strap for my camera too. I ordered a hand strap for my 30D though. I think I'll like that much better.

I'd never go strapless though. I'd be too afraid I'd fumble the camera at some point and drop it.

Both straps here: POTN neck strap and Canon E1..
I rarely use neck strap lately, most of the time it’s in my bag.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I always use a strap since I'm a klutz and can't afford to replace my camera if I would happen to drop it.

With out a neck strap, you or an accomplice have a higher chance of dropping your camera. Rule one I learned long long ago, was always put the strap around neck. Hand camera to someone, they put strap around neck. Camera dropped in 41 year? Zero. Lenses? Well they dont come with straps! :):)

I have the neck strap fitted (an Optech Pro) but very rarely use it around my neck - I tend to use it for carrying the camera on my shoulder if I have to.

I have been thinking for some time about getting a Optech Pro, to attached to my 5D. I see that Optech, make a number of different
connectors. Can someone please advise which in their opinion, is the better connector to use.
BTW I carried the camera with the strap round my neck most of the time.
Regards,

Ken

I use the strap slung over my shoulder like a bag with the strap wrapped around my shooting hand. It works great and the camera sits a lot better than when you've just got it around your neck. I'm usually hiking, rock climbing, or just walking fast when I've got the camera with me, so if it's around my neck it bounces and moves way too much.

A strap meant for your hand, I think all camcorders have a hand strap.

Neck straps here, though seldom around my neck but on my shoulder. Switched to UPstrap when my OpTech straps started to unravel at the edges. The UPstraps are incredibly grippy, does *not* slide on the shoulder like the OpTechs did. I have extra strap ends on my 300/2.8 and 500/4 so when I carry those I move the strap from the camera body to the lens.

Considering that i am getting my 30D today I will have to let you know whether I use a strap or not but I am inclined to want to use one so I don't have to hold the grip all day or putting it away in a bag and taking it out when I need it. That sounds like the formula for missing shots.

I see many recommending straps and the POTN strap and I have a question.
For those that do use a strap do you keep the strap on when you put it in a tripod and do portrait work or do you take it off? I see that some straps have quick disconnects but doesn't that leave you will the smaller pieces hanging and getting in the way? Of do you completely remove it for the studio or just handholding at home?

I want to get a strap as soon as the camera comes and want to get a feel for what others do.
