i have a 20D (still). I like to shoot birds, soccer, and my kids at their school events. I also like some candids.
I have a ef-s 17-55, a canon 50 f/1.4, a canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS, Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 and a canon 400 f/5.6
Am i missing something important or can i finally start to "save" a few dollars....

Unless you want an UWA like the 10-22, id say you can have a break for a while

Apart from the addition of a UWA the lenses you have are pretty much top of their game so i can't think of any improvements :)
I'd give your wallet and bank account a holiday if i was in your shoes, you have everything needed to get amazing images ;)

Troy, old son, how are you doin' ?

Well, I presume you are seeking advice about gettin' another L lens, as opposed to taking your family to LA ?
If so, I think it's kinda difficult for us to give advice there since it's less than clear what your photography purpose for extra L's would be.

That would be akin to, say, Dante asking a qestion about his need for gluteus maximus augmentation implants. How the heck would we know ? (Why would most of us care ? )

As noted above, the addition of the EF-s 10-22 would give you the full focal range from 10-400, plus its a fun lens to use.

As for gluteal implants, my observation would be that when you are the proprietor of one of the finest diners in the land, you have no need to pay for gluteal augmentation :D :D

hmmm... many times i see members post their gear and ask for suggestions as to what might be missing.....
that was the intention of my post...
I was curious if those who like to help others would have suggested that I get maybe a prime L lens since most of my lenses are zooms. 35 L? maybe a 85 L to fill the void between my 50 f/1.4 and 70-200 Zoom... that's where i was going with my post....

No one can answer this question for you but you. From a psychological standpoint, one could say, "If you have to ask ... then you don't" ... because you would know if you were lacking in a certain area.

For those of you that answered .... why? What is this incessant need on these forums that everyone must own the entire focal range available from Canon? The OP owns $3K worth of telephotos ranging from 70 - 400mm .... something tells me that he won't really use a 10-22 all that often. Definitely not often enough to warrant a $500+ purchase.

If you have the money .... spend it on something worth while. Throw it into an index fund like the S&P or Russell, or mabye a spider or ETF. Something that will give you a return on your investment (unlike a car, or lenses, or anything else people will try to steer you too on these forums). All of my recommendations above have extremely low expense ratios, little to no load, and are low in risk.

Hi Bill (BTW, were practically neighbors ),

Lets talk about investments....
Im mid 40's and have never had a good memory. im one of those peeps that loses everything and often misses what everyone sees. My sole reason for taking images is so that I force myself to see what otherwise I would miss for sure. Since taking photos of my 4 kids i have captured not only the beauty of the present but in the coming days when i look back I will have a chest of hidden treasures to enjoy... Do you know of any other more worthwhile investment?

troy

Seems to me you are more than covered and only if you want to shoot bugs might you notice a gap and need a macro. Maybe you need a flash. Bill is right tho'. If you don't know if you need something then really you know you don't. Relax and shoot.

Well you have a point  , but I think the 100 is more useful than the 180.

Of course if the OP is a red line only man he will missout on a lot. ;)

Braces himself for the onslaught.

Sounds like you're all set, except for maybe the aforementioned EF-S 10-22mm or a macro lens. If you don't have a flash yet, that would probably be your best investment though as that'll help all of them. :)
