I was still on the plane when the earthquake hit and I got stuck at the airport for 3 hours because there was no electricty! Other than that there was no damage on my island (Oahu, the one with honolulu :p).

Nice shots and what a beautiful place to call home! You must be happy to be back despite having an earthquake greet you.

Welcome home soldier...

Great sunsets, and exposure of the sun...the surfers are visible too...cool...

IMHO...The resort industry could always use a well traveled representative...maybe something in sales will spark your interest at one of the local resort offices or show rooms...

Does any one have any explanation as to why sun sets are so much more beautiful in Hawaii? No I am not kidding. I have no were else seen such beautiful cloud formations that seems so close to viewer at sunsets. I am really curious to know of any scientific explanations.

Nice shots! Were you also there when the 6.3 earthquake hit? I heard from my friend on vacation that there was black-out, which would've made for a spectacular night sky. :D

Great shots are like great parking spaces... if you're not quick, it's gone!

LOL I was wondering the exact same thing. I just came from North Carolina and the sky NEVER looks like this!

Perhaps placement... Hawaii is in the middle of the Pacific well away from the many pollutants, be it natural or man-made. The purity has led NOAA to use Mauna Loa to do it's atmospheric research, from... NASA and other astronomical outlets use Mauna Kea as their research haven, thanks to the superb atmosphere. But then again... it just may be the Hawaiian charm that makes the sunsets so beautiful... I've been out there 4 times this year, myself, chasing sunsets... especially the "green flash". Even when the VOG is hanging tight to the Big Island, the sunsets are phenomenal. :D
