i will be going for a hoya but not sure what type to get as i dont have much experience on this. was looking at hoya CPL filters and there are soo many to choose from and want to make sure i pick the correct one.

Any reason not to go with Sigma CPL? Mine seems to be excellent. I bought it from Adorama.

Yes, more samples.... I'm thinking about a CPL too! Maybe Santa will bring it since I've spent too much lately. Luckly my wife is into photography otherwise I'd be in trouble.... =_)

I don't have a side-by-side comparison, but in this thread I have a couple of shots; posts 55 and 62. It's great for getting deep blue skies, cutting down on foliage wash-out, and reflections from water and glass. I have the 77mm and 52mm CPLs (Adorama SG77CPLEXW and SG52CPLEXW), which were US$140 and US$60, respectively. (The 72mm is SG72CPLEXW, US$125.) Both are designed for digital cameras ("DG"), threaded for lens caps, and multicoated. The 77mm is shared by my Sigma 10-20 and Canon 17-40L, and the 52mm is for my 50mm 1.8. I use my 50mm for outdoor available light portraits and candids, so if there are reflections in glasses or eyes the filter helps reduce or eliminate them. If you can afford the light loss (1-2 stops), then they are great. I rarely shoot without them.

This link (external link)will give you lots of information about CPL filters including Hoya, but you will have to look around for a while to sort everything out! I use a Hoya Super HMC Pro-1 and its very good, as are their Pro-1 D filters....I would stay away from the others. B+W & Heliopan also make good CPL's.
