I wasn't all that thrilled with any of these shots but figured I would share anyway. Letchworth Park is referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East.
I planned on going back another day to take some shots at a different time of day but with our weather this past week, I never got there. CC is more than welcome on these. I think I may need to straighten out the one of the gorge. Does the waterfall look crooked? I had a hard time with the perspective on it.

Nice shots, Carol. I'm a neighbor to the East of you (Holley, NY) and I don't remember how times or how many shots I've taken there. Must be in the thousands, but it is such a wonderful place that I don't seem to get tired of it. If you line up your horizontal with the train trestle, you'll see that, yes, the falls look crooked. Try leaving the sky out of the Inspiration point shot, and you might find a more dramatic look.

Good series Carol, looks like a very nice place to visit. #2 has to be my favorite here with the rocks staggered back and forth the frame ending with the falls, good one.

#2 for me as well. The water formation in the foreground nicely compliments the classic waterfall in the background.

Pretty shots, Carol. I agree the railroad trestle should be leveled in #1, and #2 is my favorite.

Thanks for the comments rbo, Frank, JTand Stan. I was thinking the photos must be worse than I thought when I did not get any comments!
Rbo, is there a best time of day to photograph at Letchworth? I was there pretty early but could not be at every place in the park at the same time.
I think the falls looking crooked is an illusion. On taking a closer look, It looks like there is a ledge in the falls on the left side that makes it look that way. I did take some photos without the sky but still had a tough time with the lighting.
Does this edit look a lot better?

Hi Carol, I'm not a "morning" photograhper. I always wind up at the park in the afternoon and evenings. I've found that the lighting seems to work better for me.
Inspiration Point during the afternoon will have a little more light in the foreground. Mornings will work better on the east side of the park (not accessible during the winter months). The worst problems with late day light is getting the direct sun out ot the shot (flares).
Letchworth can look totally different fron one day to the next, so my advice is to go often. The area at the point is usually open all winter, and can yield some nice shots.
Attached are 2 favs. No.1 is an infrared taken this spring. No.2 was taken about 4 years ago in winter. (film scan).
Also, the north park's most prominent feature is "the Hogsback" and the "High Banks", both yield great shots, especially during the spring thaw - the gorge turns into a lake!
rbro:)

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Thanks for getting back to me, rbro! Those are beautiful shots! Now I want to go there this winter. Hopefully I will get back there soon. Our weather has just not been nice enough for me.
