I have no common sense whatsoever when it comes to shooting. Most often the danger for me comes from sports shooting. During football season, I've almost been mowed down by packs of 300lb players coming at me at full speed. I've taken to using a "spotter," a student who will watch the action while I'm shooting and pull me out of the way when danger looms. During basketball season, cramped quarters doesn't permit that, however. I'm often hit by the ball:
...Or by the players.
Even senior portrait sessions pose their own unique dangers. I almost fell from a cliff getting to this location:
But the most dangerous situation I've been in was at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point, IN. I was afforded the opportunity to get very close to the animals. Too close.
The big cats there will hide in water tanks and tall grass and then spring at unsuspecting visitors. I got too close to what I thought was a "nice" lion and was almost knocked down when he suddenly jumped up on a fence inches from where I as standing. The roar was deafening!
