We have a mutual friend and 'member' who would likely spend good money on that kind of recording ... up to whatever price he might get for his 300mm 2.8 IS L. Let's split any profits 50-50% ;)

OK, gotcha, I think he's busted now.

Not quite mah bo', that's the 135SF.
The 135L yields a very very different image feel.

I'd pay 2x as much money to get it if I had to.
Besides, my long suffereing better half bought it for me (like everything else;) )....on softness setting "2" (i.e., max) it makes her look 10 yrs younger.
For some reson she likes that.

wow...I paid over 2x the money to get the 135L....should have done my research I guess. Soft focus is definitely a plus on the receiving end of a photo!

Nice vote of confidence.. but wouldn't Photoshop be cheaper? :p

Somehow I could never figure out how to do the soft focus thing in PS without making the whole image look blurred....

Permagrin: What do you use your 135L for?

Portraits. It takes absolutely stunning portraits. I can't say that I've used it for much else though...it's kind of an odd length for me to take out for a day shoot...too short for distance shots and too long for landscapes. It's an awesome lens though.

Ahh.... in which case it's a definite no-go for me. Not a regular portrait shooter (usually avoid it). For the occasions where I need to, I can adapt the Sigma 70-200/2.8 to do the job. At 135mm 2.8 wide open, it is VERY sharp. 200's soft, but at every other focal length it is quite a decent lens. (condyk would love to hear that ;) (I DO complement 3rd party sometimes..))

The 135FS has a very high resolving power. Also it gets you images like this straight outta camera. Which is good for those of us who do not relish image processing on the PC.

Thank you. The AF speed is "adequate", I'd say. Very much typical of that lens generation, like 35 f2.0 and even 50 f/1.4.
I have not tried bird flight photography with it, but I suspect it should do OK .....relatively speaking. Clearly, it is not in the 135L league, but then again, very few lenses are.;)
