Would you buy a lens from Amazon? It's cheaper than BH and offers free shipping. Can I still get the Canon rebate?

Thanks!

Stacie

Have you purchased from Amazon before? Where you happy with them? Is it really from Amazon or just through Amazon from say 47thStreetPhoto?

Why wouldn't the Canon rebate work?

I bought my 1Ds Mark II from Amazon. It was slightly cheaper than B&H when I factored in the free two day shipping. And it was from Amazon directly. It will usually say whether or not the item is being sold by Amazon directly. And the free shipping only applies to items sold directly by Amazon.

I wouldn't hesitate to order from Amazon. The only thing I can say is that you need to look at the retrailer that the item is coming from. Remember that Amazon gets a good deal of their merchandise from retailers all over the country and that is why price fluctuates like the stock market. It is based on who has the best price at the moment. I was going to order my 30D and Sigma lens from Amazon but I wanted it overnight and did not want the free shipping that would take as much as a week. The 30D body could have been sent overnight but the lens was coming from Cameta Camera and they offer an Expedited 1-3 day delivery and that did not suit me. I did not want the body with no lens for another 2 days. So just look at the retailer to see if that is going to be a problem for you. Other than that, they are great to deal with and I would easily buy additional gear from them in the future. They have very competetive pricing.

Amazon offers you a choice... if you click on the "other merchants offering the same product" link...It usually says "New and Used" from...A list of all merchants who deal with Amazon offering this particular item, will give you the item prices from each...

I don't see B & H participating with Amazon, nor are there a few others...So compare the vendors availability, competitive pricing, shipping methods, taxability, and you'll be able to make a more informative decission...

Amazon's customer review is also somewhat informative...as are the merchant's "quality of service" ratings...

I find certain vendor's items to be priced competitively lower on the Amazon web site, than on their actual, own store web site....

Almost all my equipment was ordered from Amazon w/ absolutely no problems. Most times, 2 day shipping is free. When you look at an item, it will tell you if it from Amazon or Not. Then, usually to the side, it will give you the price from other stores they deal w/ such as Adorama etc.. and their price. If the Adorama prices is say $10 cheaper than the Amazon price, you have to factor in the shipping cost as most times Amazon is free (as stated above)

I wouldn't hesitate for one second and they're customer service is great.
Additionally, I almost always get my stuff well before the estimated arrival date. (Of course you have to factor in where you live and where it ships from. I Live in DE and the Amazon HQ is about 10mi from me. Although I doubt that is where they ship it from, my point is the company is very regional to me)

I ordered my XT from Amazon, along with the 17-85mm lens. Both items were direct from Amazon and I was able to use my free 2 day shipping.

Some other items come from 3rd party vendors, so you should pay attention when ordering.

But, assuming you are ordering direct from Amazon, the best thing is the 30 day full refund policy. When the XTi came out two weeks after I got my XT, I was able to return the XT for a full refund. And Amazon even paid the return shipping. Very easy.

Yes, amazon.com is one of Canon's authorized dealers.
Just make sure you order it direct instead of going thru their third party vendors.

Does anyone know if amazon is an authorized dealer or reseller. I was looking at the Canon 70-200 F2.8 non IS and it was $10 cheaper than BH and offers free shipping. But without the rebate it ends up more.

Amazon.com has the best customer service in the world. Boy, I'm setting myslef up on that statement - ok, really good customer service. I have a lens on the way here form them right now. I do make it a point, as others mentioned, of making sure the item is from Amazon not another merchant.
