Fairly moody but does it work?
Thanks for looking.

I think that you certainly achieved a moody look through the almost completely black to very light sections of the photo, so it works for me Paul.

I think you could have used a bit more detail in the big rock to the left instead of having it totally black but other than that I think it's a great shot, and as you say, very moody. Well done.

The right side is fantastic - it has really interesting layers from foreground to background and gorgeous rich colours. :D

But I found my eye is drawn away to the unattractive black rock and the spray above it which disconcertingly seems to go straight up into the clouds. I would crop to a Charlie Waite style square and ditch the rock completely. Just my opinion! :)

Paul,i think you tried too hard to achieve the mood and you lost the apropriate detail of the image.
I`m really sorry to say that if i was you i would give it another try, thats only my honest oppinion of cours.
Try different lighting conditions.

Nice photo but like the others a little too dark on the foreground.

Thanks for your interesting comments.
It just goes to show how opinions vary and in my experience it is also very
interesting that the photo buying public have at times a vastly different
set of values to photographers.
All opinions are valuable .. one helps with technique etc the other pays the bills.

If I lighten the dark areas the shot is destroyed .. it becomes too much like a snap ..
the mood and the feeling evaporates.

Thanks again.
Paul

Works like a charm!

The contrast betweend the colours fo the sea and the dark foreground is fanstastic!
