Hi guys,

Here's the background - Since May of this year of all the photo's I've taken I seem to get more 'keepers' from the 70-200 f4'L' than I do from the kit lens (I know no surprise there  ), so in the next couple of week I'm thinking of replacing the kit lens with something better ? (budget is £500ish) I'm leaning towards the 17-40 f4'L', but just wondered if there's anything else I should be considering, want to use it as a general walkabout lens and for landscapes.

Are the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC or the Tamron SP 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di-II LD ASP IF worth considering ? ? ?

If I was to go for either of these would I regret not getting the 'L' ;) , but if I did I would have some cash left over for buying other stuff !

So many questions, lets see some suggestions ! and sample images please

Thanks

Alan

I like the 28-75 2.8 from Tamron... use it at work... then you would have some left over as well...

there's also a $30 rebate on that lens if i recall correctly.
if you dont use the 18-28 focal range much, add a 3rd vote from me.

Be sure to look at the 24-105L IS. Here in Toronto you can get it for $1500, just a little more then £500 maybe. It is a good weight & build and performs well wide open. It seems to be a lens designed towards digital backs.

If you don't need the fixed 2.8 you could also take a look at the Sigma 17-70

If your replacing the 17-xx range lenms, then I think your spot on to go for the 70-200mm's little brotehr 17-40mm f/4L
You'll love the keepers from it as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I decided to go for the 17-40 'L' thought I'd get it to try and if I decide I don't like it could probably get a better resale value than the Sigma or Tamron.

Just excited waiting for it to be delivered now !
