Question about Family Portrait

I have a family portrait this weekend. TWO infact but one is of an African American Family. I wanted to know if there is a rule for making sure there is light on their face. I don't want them to come out darker. :oops:
This will be my first African American Family and I'm still new to all this. Any samples would be great.I don't have anything fancy for equipment except natural light and a Foam board. HELP?

You need an external flash! Unless, you are outside and lighting is perfect. Read some of the stickes in lighting about light techniques.
