Here is a pic of my little girl. How do I prevent the softness around the edges? How can I improve my work with lights...I used to 60 watt lamps and a towel.

Probably camera shake as you're shooting in fairly low light at 1/25. Go to ISO 400, maybe even 800 for a much faster shutter speed.

She's a cutie.

use a white sheet instead of a towel, or bounce the light off of a piece of white foam core board. don't place the lamps so close to the subject. Also, maybe try to back up a little. and get her attention so she's looking at the camera.

which lens did you use for this shot? i'm guessing your aperture was probably wide open which reduced your DOF to a very small distance, which in turn caused anything beyond a certain point to start to blur...
Include the Av, Tv and ISO settings when posting, it always helps people give better advice :)
