I could use some input on the categorization and number of galleries (i feel like i have way too many galleries with too few images in them)

sjafari,

I like your site - nice header (I like the mini logo in the footer) and clean lines. I woudl not worry too much about the number of images, so long as the heirarchy makes sense. I noticed you used gallery comments to x-ref to other areas which makes it very user friendly. I think my site is the exact opposite. I worry I have too many images in each gallery (perhaps too many full stop on public show).

Only had a quick look (At work!) but love your NYC pics esp this one..

I am in the process of redoing my page....not ready to show yet
But, I was wondering if you all are resizing before you up load/what resolution/size of files you are uploading. I would love to put my full resolution jpgs up on mine to provide the best pics possible for ordering, but it takes forever to upload even on my DSL. Realistically what is a good balance between quality and file size??

I like your site. I would put trains boats and planes under one category but that's me. I sometimes wonder if I am doing overkill with the volume of mine also, Like the boxing. Think I need to break those down by rounds, because one gallery has 7 pages!

I upload originals or if I crop them the default file size for that. I do "save for the web" and not sure that is the best if someone orders a print. I just had to throw an original up, because someone ordered a 20"-30" and one of the heads would have been too close to edge...With the original I was plenty to work with. I have window XP and DSL and they load really fast. They need biggest file size for best printing...

I resize my images to have a max of 1600px in either direction, which keeps the size relatively small while still retaining a lot of detail (jpeg quality level of 9 or 10). Depending on the gallery, some I will allow viewing of the original image, most i wont. Unless you plan to use smugmug as some form of backup, i wouldnt bother uploading full res images (who needs that level of quality for monitor viewing anyway?)

I like that layout. I love your squirrel porn! Great pics. My friend has a dog that look just like one of the dogs in your pic.

I upload full size jpgs and let it run overnight - it takes several hours but, hey, I'm asleep!

I noticed that too...it's much slower than the flickr uploader I'd used previously but the interface is so much nicer that I just overall like it better....

Haha...indeed it is borderline squirrel porn. At the time I really didn't think of it as that but the more I see it the more I realize that's exactly what was happening. Thanks for checking out the site.
