ok, NOW it's on, mr. leaveit!! :)

you harshed me for my lg action sports crops being too tight because all i show is air. now you tell mr. jimbob to "try and go for a wider crop"! what do you want....shots from a mile away??

i'm just sayin', bro....maybe it's the way you say it, as if you know the rules and you're handing out advice. i've looked at your stuff, and you know what you're doing with the camera, but hey, there ARE no rules!

so, here's MY suggestion...next time try and go for a little more tact, like this:

"sweet shots, man. i like a wider crop, myself, but you did a great job of capturing the action."

oh, and for the record, jimbob, i think your crops are fine!

peace, out.

wp.

Oh dear...i dont wanna start a POTN thread war!
To start off...i thing i was quite clear in my post on ur lg sports thread that i "personally" like wider crops. And i totally agree with you that there are no REAL rules, just depends what suits the shot and what you like...and i did say that "there are no hard-and-fast rules", so u cant bring me up on that.
Plus, i would like you to show me a post iv made that outright criticised anothers shot. I almost always start off with a "well done" or "great shots". Even in regards to mr. jimbob's shots, i did start of with "No 3 is awesome. The rest are good also." - isnt that so?? Even with ur lg sports thread i did say that the shots were tight "in my oppinion", but that "ur shots are fine, no doubt".
I really try and make a positive comment on everyones work because even though it may not appeal to me so much, i respect that they took the time and effort to take the shots, and everyone deserves a 'well done' at least for that (this is not to say that urs or mr. jimbobs shots are bad - cos they are GOOD). But if i feel that some shots could be bettered (according to my perspective), i will say what is on my mind (and try and be polite and appreciative about it) because this forum is all about sharing thoughts and so on so we can learn and take away from each other what we want. No one is forced to take advice, and i do try and be as friendly as possible.
So i appologise to you and mr. jimbob for seeming rude or harsh perhaps, even for seeming like im setting some rules. I just give my 2 cents, and then anyone is welcome to share my thoughts if they like. Thats the way it goes.

What i ment by a wider crop is something like this...
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=214977
This kind of shot is my style. I skated for about 6 years solidly myself, had heaps of contact with skate photography and skate magazines in that time, and so iv developed my preferences. I still skate on and off now, and still greatly appreciate skate photography, and know that personal style is half of a great shot.

And... to mr. jimbob...the more i look at ur shots, the more i like them. The crops arent as tight as i first labled them, but i still, personally, would have gone for something a little wider on some of the shots.

Hope that clears all this mess up fellas...;)

yikes! i didn't know you posted this here, too, leaveit. just to reiterate what i said in the lg thread, it's all good. no worries - it's all friendly. i took some exception to your wording, but trust me, it wasn't nearly as bad as stuff i've seen on other forums. there are some TOTAL fascists out there!
