My Father took this picture of us a couple of weeks ago. I handed the camera over in manual mode and tried my best to coach him...

Hope it isn't too terrible.....

I know that he missed focus a little, but I tried to correct that to best of my ability. Also, his first time trying to use flash as a fill light.

This is a very nice photo of you and your wife. Your father did an excellent job.

Thanks for the kind words!

I remember when I was growing up, he was always taking pictures with his Canon gear. I can't even tell you how many slide carousels he and my Mom have. I think that he had (and still has) an AE-1.

I think the instant feedback of the 20D really impressed him. He has been out of photography for quite a while now, so this was way ahead of anything he had used before.

I did some adjustments of my own here. [REMOVED do to monitor calibration error]
Pose suggestion: Though you wife is very lovely, she looks a bit stiff. NOT to offend!
If your wife was slightly tighter to you, perhaps her right hand at the middle to upper middle of you back (to embrace) and her left hand palm on you upper breast or on your left shoulder, also her head tilted ever-so-slightly to you instead of away, I think it would have worked better.

I prefer the original. The skin tones on the edit look to red, at least on my monitor.

No offense taken what so ever. I was in front of the camera so I couldn't see what was happening there.

I TOTALLY agree that my wife needs to be a little closer to me (in more ways than one;) ). That was the major fault that I saw with this picture.

Thanks for the feedback, it's greatly appreciated.

Travis

I think you may need to calibrate your monitor if these colors look right to you. The skin tone is close to purple.

Forgot to mention in my reply above, I think that the original is better too, as far as color tone goes. But, I saw a blue cast to the skin tones on the edit, not red.

I like the feeling. Your Dad must be about my age. I began shooting in 1955 and only "converted" to digital about 18 months ago. What fun it is to have free practice!! I increased the contrast a good bit and bumped the saturation just a little. Then I ran the lowest level of Focus Magic to sharpen. Sorry they are so small but I do not have resizing down very well. You make a very attractive and peaceful couple.

Now that looks better. Travis's skin tone still seems to have some magenta... is that me?... I am paranoid now.

Great picture, nice looking couple. Decided to take a stab at it myself and try to get the skin tones to look more natural....

It's interesting to see that you and Pat went in opposite directions for correcting the image. IMO between yours, Pat's and the original, the original version still looks the best. Some people like very saturated/higher contrast images and some like the colors to be quite muted ... it's just a personal taste thing. :)
