John,

Thanks for your suggestion. I prefer what I did with curves and shadow/highlight, the sky has a gray cast with the auto-levels correction you did that I don't care for. But these are personal observations. The horizontal FOV for this image is about 135 degress at the horizon. The sun is just out of view above the upper right hand corner of the picture. The halo you mention is real and was visual obvious at the time. This was taken at midday when the sun is the least flattering, the shadows can be very deep and the glare from the sandstone very high. As you may imagine, it was very bright inthe full sun.

The image set was taken to assemble a spherical 360 and that involves some compromises because of the high dynamic lighting range. This view looked interesting so I cropped it and posted.

Thanks to everyone for there comments and suggestions.

Jeff

Folks, you just can't believe how difficult it is to take pictures in Zion. Like Jeff mentioned, the shadows are always in play and then the Sun gets high and starts to wash out the colors. You can go early, late or in the middle of the day and always battle the light.

I met a fellow from England on the shuttle one morning and all he could talk about was how beautiful a place is so difficult to shoot. By the way he was a Canon guy and I was hoping to see him post here.

No problem Jeff. I'm no Photoshop expert by any means, and it sounds like the lighting at Zion is a tricky matter in any case.
