So I asked this before, but now its happening more so I want to describe it better. This only happens when I'm very close up on a picture, the focus sets, and is perfect focus, I go to shoot the shutter button but the focus confirmation light just blinks.

I either have to step back with the camera and zoom in more, or totally focus on another object, come back then and reset up on the closer object I'm shooting.

Is this normal ? It seems to happen randomly, and sometimes the pics are in focus.

how close to you subject are you? it sounds like you're too close to achieve focus lock, altho according to your description you say you get focus lock.

Whatever you're shooting......shoot it in manual focus.
That's what I do when that happens.

What lens are you using? The minimum focusing distance for the EF-S 18-55 is 0.28 m, or about 11 inches, so if you are using this lens for the shots, you may be getting too close to achieve focus.

I run into this problem when i'm using my 50mm, I always try to shoot too damn close, i typically end up switching to my 100mm

Think you are too close and the lens cant lock focus. Check min focussing distance for your lens.
