Are DO lenes worth it?

I think you would be crazy to buy the 70-300mm DO lens. The 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS (non-DO) has excellent optics and probably outperforms it in IQ. I haven't touched the DO lens so I cannot compare build and feel. The non-DO version is very light and portable.

If you are going to be spending that kinda money on a lens, why in the world wouldn't you get a 70-200 f/4L IS or a 70-200 f/2.8L?????

there's always the f/4 IS... which is the same cost as the 70-300 DO. I'm sure you can have it shipped in from the continental us...

I had a 70-300 DO and sold it when I got the 70-200 IS and 100-400. I wanted the better capability of these...which they deliver.

However, I missed the travel capability of the DO. So, I recently bought a new one. It is not as fast or sharp as the 70-200 and not as long as the 100-400. However, it is sharp in it's own right and with a little PP can produce images very close to it's 'L' brothers....and I will have it available places where I would never have the others. NET...to me, it is worth the price.
