First of all, I'm just a novice in the field of photography. I've been shooting my father's old Pentax ME, and a crappy old Sony digital, and I'd really like to go a little deeper with a quality camera to learn on. So, I now have the chance of getting an EOS 10D body for about 350 euros (some 400 bucks). Do you think that's reasonable? I'm on something of a budget now, so I really don't want to spend more than maybe 350 euros on a camera (lenses can wait). There are of course plenty of great pocket-size P&Ss in that price range, but most of them still have the same six megapixels (no, I am not a pixel whore) as the 10D, which of course has the advantages of the magnesium body, superior optics, and actual control.

For that price, is the 10D still worth getting, and are there some caveats I should keep in mind?

Seems expensive for an older used camera. The image quality compared with a P&S will be great, especially at ISO400 or lower.
