I tried another for a while. While technically OK, I had found it boring in the extreme.
Now you need to understand one thing first......the myth about "'golden" age is a load of balloney. There is nothing golden, dignified and cheery about being old. Actually, it sucks big time any which way you wanna look at it. I have been trying to combat the tedium of my somewhat advancing years thru levity, humour, pranks or silliness, if you will. If it ain't funny, I simply lose interest very quickly. No time left to waste on "serious" stuff.

Which brings us back to that other forum. It was not fun nor funny. There was so little cheer there, you couldn't fill a treeshark's behind with it.

POTN has its moments, its excentrics, its geniuses and flamboyancies and its zany (;) ) but magnanimous moderators. It's more like real life that way. No doubt, there is a "sinister" side to POTN as well....like "What lens do I need to get, if any at all" discussions. Obviously that sorta thing goes with the teritory....one can chose not to read the stuff which is not to their taste.

So kids, enjoy while you can...and remember, taking pictures is another great therapy, for both young and old.

I blame POTN (and in particular ThomasCanty aka Lonnie) for wasting huge amounts of my money that really should have gone toward paying bills, upkeep of my home, keeping my partner happy, and (most importantly) food. Instead, I've been forced into buying an ever expanding and expensive collection of melted sand, metal and white enamel.

Where else could I have friends like this....? ;)

That should read: "meLted sand, metaL and white enameL"

I'd like to add that this is a great forum in all areas.

"Zany" you mean ? OK, check the POTN's list of moderator names.....that would be a good start, I think.
However, there are a couple that really have me in stitches on occasion.
For one I think have a good alias....."Graf Heg von Waxwing". For the other, Iam still thinking....it'll come to me eventually.;)

I am, by no means, old, but I am at the point in my life that wasting time here in the forum is therapy. Where else can I talk about my love of photography, and photography gear with people as obsessed as I am and trying hard to do better all the time. The humor is definitely unique and people get to know each other well, which is a good thing. I tried the other forums as well, but not for long. People tend to jump out and grab you. People here are much more helpful.

:o I actually meant the fora! I wouldn't dream of calling the mental state of any of our moderators into question!

Talking about being unconventional and "zany", I challege you to find another adult( ) technical forum where some senior members are bestowed custom honorifics by the mods, such as these:

Cream of Scorn
I am Lame
Carnage the Magnificent
El Geratol Comedian.

I have an issue to present related to the thread title.

Now, my Latin might be a bit rusty, as I am more than twice as old as I was when I studied it in high school, but I believe, the plural of forum would be fori, not fora. (there would be a smilie here, but my current connection does not allow any of the "click-on" goodies)

Please, no nasty gender responses, but forum is a masculine word, and fora would be the plural of a feminine word - in Latin, of course.

But to respond, I have tried several other forums (fori?), and I always find my way back here. It is more friendly here, the mods handle the trolls, spam, flame wars, and such very well, and I continue to learn by visiting.

My 2 cents.

Have Fun,

Rick

Indeed. I am not familiar with Geratol though, is that a Canadian Linament for the advancing years? ;)

YOu exist as part of the chosen few though PetKal, the rest of us mere mortals await the call to honorifics in vain I think!

Rickmaster, I'll be back to you with that, we are looking for the nominative case plural of "forum".....you may have a point there.;) My Latin has gone even rustier than my English.:D I thought "forum" was neutral gender, not masculine....I am probaly wrong.

I always though EOSAddict was a bestowed honorhorific of the sarcastic variety given your admiration of alternative opticals :o
