I'm hoping mine shows up Friday as well, I paired mine up with a 30D and 580EX to max out the rebates...

Looking forward to this lens.

I just got mine in this morning along with a 580EX and a 10-22. I didn't get the hood for the 100 macro though as I've heard mixed opinions about using it. I guess I'll find out myself when I play with it all weekend. :-D

You should get the hood as the front element is not recessed. Its a big hood but is not a problem unless you get close to life size. Although you can use it at life size I often switch to the hood from the EF-S 60mm.

Unfortunatly this means you have to fork out for two hoods, but if it gives results...

Bite the bullet, get the cotton-pick'in hood before you wish you did.

I ordered the OEM hood with mine, I always feel cheated. Canon's hoods are so cheap in design--clearly not worth $20-40.00 IMO, but what are you going to do?

I think the hoods are getting cheaper by the year in build as well. My Macro hood is almost a grey plastic vs. black of my other cheap L hoods. My 75-300 IS USM hood was a tad more black then my Macro hood.
