This is the Holocaust Memorial unveiled in 2005, 60 years from the anniversary of the end of WWII. When I first viewed it it almost appeared "tacky" but after you spend some time wandering through it we began to understand the thoughts behind it. Built on undulating land many of the stones are 3m (10ft) tall and when in the middle the only light you get is from overhead. It really is an eerie place and the shadows and cold stone give you a feeling like no other memorial.
It is very well thought out and an interesting memorial in the centre of the city without the grandeur of other "victorious" monuments.

The second is a great shot to me. I'd usually say something about the sky being blown out but, since the shot does not have a lot of color to begin with, I actually think that it works well here.
I thought that it would make a perfect candidate for B&W so I just quickly removed the color for reference below.
Great shots and thank you for sharing them.

Thanks Robert, I too like the B&W version. I never thought of that.

I'm sure that your conversion will look much better than my "Enhance-Adjust Color-Remove Color" quicky. ;) :D

Good to see the memorial in the sunlight. When I was there earlier this year nothing but rain. Thanks for sharing. So did you go here?

Hi SanderH,
No I didn't see that, I would have loved to have though! Too late now though as I'm back in sunny Australia. I was staying not too far from you though, my wife is from Holland and we were staying in Winterswijk and her brother was stationed at Twente with the RNLAF.
