Must get another 30D ... must get another 30D ...
Didn't realise it would be as common as this. Of course when I shoot a wedding alone I'll have a backup (my brother's 20D until I can afford a second body) ... but wouldn't have expected to need it.

Even removing the battery (and re-inserting!) and like wise with the CF card didn't help. I used my 300D as backup for the remainder of the event. 1DsMkIII | 1DMkIIN | 70-200 f/2.8L IS | 24-70 f/2.8L | 24-105 f/4L IS | 17-40 f/4L | 50 f/1.2L | WFT-E1 & E2 Transmitters - Click Here for setup advice | CP-E4 Battery Pack x 2 | ST-E2 | 580EX | 550EX | 430EXII | 420EX | Tripod + monopod | Bowens Esprit Gemini 500W/s heads & Travel-Pak | All this gear - and still no idea

Grabbed the back up, changed the flash over (fav flash and that was working) Took a shot, no flash. The hot shoe connections looked a bit dicey at a glance, which I hadnt noticed previously, gave it a wipe, a prayer and away we went. Moral of the story? Thoroughly check all gear prior to every event. I hadnt noticed grot on the hot shoe even though I do a quick test and lookover before every shoot. I had missed it and could have paid big time for the over sight. My heart almost stopped I'm sure!
