I would resize to the exact specifications he needs, rather than giving him a large file to resize. That way it can never be used for prints.

I recently charged £95 ($170) for 7 images for a company's website. As funnypicmaker says, they were reduced to web resolution so no prints could be made.

It should depend on the size of the website. If you're doing it for canon.com you might want more than if you were doing it for some guys personal webpage that wont make more than 1000 hits a month.

what are the photos being used for? how long will the job take you?

if its a 20 minutes job and they are being used to accent a point in a blog entry / paragraph... a hundred bucks.

if they are being used for a corporate identity and what is or what could be a high volume sight, now your talking more money

you also have to be very aware that they could just go to a microstock site and get pics for a few bucks... so if they have already shopped their for prices, they are thinking one of two things

1) they know they can get good enough for a few bucks but have specific requirements to make better shots, but only want to pay the few bucks

2) they know they can get good enough for a few bucks but they don't want what someoen else has and, hopefully, they value your skills and talent and are willing to pay more money for something unique and exclusive to them

I never go below $100 for web images, no matter the size. I also give them a file size for their maximum allowable usage dimensions. They can downsize if they want.
