Since I was being refunded my overnight UPS shipping costs for the 30D because UPS screwed up I applied it to the nifty and I should have it late next week. I couldn't wait to order it. I know I like and will use it.

EDIT: OOPs, typo in the title. It should say Nifty. Doh!

You have been on a shopping spree! ;) What is next? I suggest 85mm 1.8!

Hey Ryan. Yes I have been on a bit of a buying spree. I knew I wanted the 50mm but I did not want that to be my only lens. I should have just gotten it when I ordered the camera and the 17-70mm but in the end this works out real well. I am going to have to take a break from buying for a little while now and pay some bills.

i have the 85mm, and just purchased a brand new 18-55 kit lens for $60. i cant wait till it gets here! considering i got the kit lens so cheap, i'm considering getting the 50/1.8 for indoor/close-range low-light environments. however, i'm wondering if i should just go for the sigma 30/1.4 instead. ahhhhh!!!

That's great that you found a good price on the kit lens. I see you are getting some very nice primes. Why exactly are you getting the kit lens? After you use those other lenses on your list are you sure you are going to want to use the kits lens? BTW, I am completely loving the Sigma 17-70mm so far. Tomorrow will be the first real test for me at the car show. I am glad I have the wide angle and the extra reach of the 70mm.

You guys are KILLING ME!!! hehehe.

STOP PURCHASING THINGS!! hehe...it's not making my life any easier! I am SO undecided about 'the next lens' that it's getting rather frustrating. I can't take it anymore.

Good luck with them...I am sure you will be really surprised.

i got the kit lens to play with a cheap zoom and help me determine which zoom i'd like to purchase in the future. i'll be paying 400+ on my first zoom purchase, and would like a better idea of which 'standard' zoom is best for me. whether it's one with a bit of wide angle, or a bit of tele. the kit lens should help me do that, and i can probably sell it off at the same price. :D

The 50 is a nice portrait lens, but a bit long for general use on a crop camera. But is is a great prime lens, and a fantastic entrance into the world of primes.

One thing I'm not sure of - the 'nifty' is the 50 1.4 and the thrifty is the 1.8 - right?
