OK, so, I did it myself. The torture is over. Ordered the 50 1.4, the 85 1.8, and the 100mm Macro.

Now, it's time to sell the 50mm macro. Though, I will have to check what the current used prices are for a prime specimen. I kept that thing in mint condition...and, now, looking for some money to help pay for this other stuff.

There...happy now!!! Hehehe.

yeah, and I should be expecting a nice sized rebate...once everything is tested, used, and forms mailed. Double on all three lenses, and the camera, as well. So, I basically get two lenses for free. Not a bad situation, if you ask me.

But, that's not gonna help you, at this time...bummer.

I've got both the 50mm f/1.8 MK1, and a EF 35mm f/2 lens. Both are EXCELLENT and cost around 150 each used. THe Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a super nice lens, great build, a bit soft wide open, but its super nice stopped down a touch. Only problem is cost... like 400 bucks! For 1/3 - 1/2 the price you can land yourself the 35mm f/2. It doesn't have USM, doesnt have the build quality, and its a touch slower, but its cheap - sharp - and fast enough!

rhinotherunt....I just did the same thing Wednesday night. I paid for 2 day shipping from B&H but they won't be here until Monday! I guess we are all on the same wavelengh.

Karman

Cool! I am cheap so I got the cheapest shipping! LOL! So, I may get them at the end of this comming week or the begining of the next week. Looking forward to seeing some ducks with your new lenses!

The 50 is a nice portrait lens, but a bit long for general use on a crop camera. But is is a great prime lens, and a fantastic entrance into the world of primes.

One thing I'm not sure of - the 'nifty' is the 50 1.4 and the thrifty is the 1.8 - right?

Lets see...
Thrifty 50 1.8
Nifty 50 1.4
Magnificent 50 1.2
:p

LOL! There is actually a 50 1.0... It was extremely expensive and did not produce images up to expectations. It was a super magifique let down... or so I have read...

Here's a link to one of the pictures taken with the 5D...hope you like it...

Just a tickle of a full frame image. The flower in that shot is about the size of a quarter, or a little bit bigger...a silver dollar, perhaps.

The 50mm 1.8II is a gateway drug to other primes. I've already moved to the 50mm 1.4 and next month I'll likely be ordering the 135mm 2.0 before my son starts indoor soccer. I used the Thrifty Fifty all last basketball season and it served well. I think you'll enjoy it!

One photo from the Thrifty 50 1.8 :-)

Stopped down to f5.6 1/125. Extremely sharp and a real bargain

Uh ohh....and I have an addictive personality.

I can't wait until this week when my 50mm f/1.8 comes. It took me a while to understand what made a lens good and what it meant to have a 'fast' lens but once I did it opened up a world or creativity. I know my lens collection will ultimately be a well thought out combination of zooms and primes with this little beauty as the first prime. I suppose that is somehow poetic.
