Placed my order for the 24-70L, thus completing my "kit" for the second or third time :)

Honestly, I can't imagine needing anything else in the near future for the stuff I shoot. Once my daughter gets into sports (3-4 years down the road or more), I can see a longer lens in my future as well as an upgrade of the 70-200 f/4 (which is great outdoors but sees little action inside).

I love my 50 and it's mounted 95% of the time, but since I've started shooting my daughter in a "studio" setting, I find it a bit too long and have wished for something in the 30-35mm range. I used the kit lens for this with some success but the focus is slow and clunky and shows weakness when shooting a subject that remains still for a fraction of a fraction of a second. I seriously considered the 35L or 16-35L but couldn't justify the price, especially for the 16-35L, since I already have an UWA lens. I love my primes also, making the decision to not get the 35L or even the Sigma 30mm difficult. In the end I felt a zoom to cover the range between my 10-22 and 70-200 would be useful. I suspect the 50 and 85 will still get used, especially since I'm taking more and more "in-studio" shots, but I'm looking forward to having the 24-70 as a walkaround lens as well as the go-to lens for full body and group portraits.

Thanks for listening to me justify the $1k+ price tag... I feel much better now :)

impressive! i have never been taken by this lens, its a range i have no interest in at the moment, you have a few lenses that are on my wish list namely the 85, 70-200, and 10-22 how do you find them?

I love 'em all, really, though each has their application.

The 85 doesn't get a whole lot of action at the moment but when called upon, it rocks (as seen in many, many posts on these boards).

The 70-200 f/4 is great with enough light. Fantastic contrast, sharpness and bokeh. Here are a couple of examples:

The 10-22 is what it is - a nice UWA lens for a cropped body. It definately got the job done when I went to NYC:

I like your setup, I want something similar, except maybe a 50 1.8 instead of a 1.4, and a sigma or Tokina 12-24 inside of a 10-22. Also want a super telephoto of some sort (Tokina 80-400, Tamron 200-500, don't know.)

But realistically in the next while it'll probably be 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 70-200 f4l, Tamron 28-75, extension tubes & a 1.4x kenko teleconverter.

Whiskaz,

It never ends...just slows down from time to time :)

As you might surmise from my signature block...I do like your lens collection

The 24-70MM EF L is a fine addition to an already great kit you have assembled

Enjoy,

Jim,

Nice gearlist! Nearly identical! If I could swing it, I'd have that 30 or 35mm prime in my kit and well, that 17-55 f/2.8 IS wouldn't be bad either but I really couldn't justify the pricetag - even though it's a) a great range, b) a fast zoom and c) has IS.

Oh and that 30D might make it into the sig by the end of the rebate program. Gotta pick up something else to take advantage of the double-bate, after all :)

That is a great lens - perfect for portraits and walking around, etc. It's clearly my most-used lens. Love it.

As for completing your kit... I hate to break it to you but it's never really complete. There's always room for one more. ;)

I did have two dRebel 350s but I am giving one to my oldest daughter along with the kit lens and my 28-105 Mark II (great reasoning to buy a 30D) :)

I have two bodies as I shoot weddings and the cardinal rule is to have two bodies just in case one fails. I usually put a prime one and a zoom on the other.

I got my 30D on Friday...was out shooting yesterday and today. First impressions are great...I am going to love this camera

Glad to hear you like it Jim :)

I'm seriously torn between the 30D, going FF with the 5D (I'm really not that eager to go FF), or really holding out for the 1D Mk2... though I'm leaning quite heavily toward the 30D.

I loved being able to change AF points with the joystick! I always end up changing the shutter speed or aperture on the 350D inadvertently - quite frustrating.

Whiskaz,

No FF for me in the future...I spent my $$ on lenses and the 30D. The controls on the 30D are easy to learn and the wheel on the back is a big plus.

Here is a shot of my wife made the 30D, the 17-55MM EF-S IS, and the 580 SpeedEx Flash unit. What a winning combo  Note: I applied USM Using PSCS.

In some ways, buying lenses is like making love. No matter how complete the satisfaction, it's only temporary.;)

ROFL!

The part when you get your CC bill is akin to getting kneed in the bollocks, however. :p
