Placed my order for the 24-70L, thus completing my "kit" for the second or third time
Honestly, I can't imagine needing anything else in the near future for the stuff I shoot. Once my daughter gets into sports (3-4 years down the road or more), I can see a longer lens in my future as well as an upgrade of the 70-200 f/4 (which is great outdoors but sees little action inside).
I love my 50 and it's mounted 95% of the time, but since I've started shooting my daughter in a "studio" setting, I find it a bit too long and have wished for something in the 30-35mm range. I used the kit lens for this with some success but the focus is slow and clunky and shows weakness when shooting a subject that remains still for a fraction of a fraction of a second. I seriously considered the 35L or 16-35L but couldn't justify the price, especially for the 16-35L, since I already have an UWA lens. I love my primes also, making the decision to not get the 35L or even the Sigma 30mm difficult. In the end I felt a zoom to cover the range between my 10-22 and 70-200 would be useful. I suspect the 50 and 85 will still get used, especially since I'm taking more and more "in-studio" shots, but I'm looking forward to having the 24-70 as a walkaround lens as well as the go-to lens for full body and group portraits.
Thanks for listening to me justify the $1k+ price tag... I feel much better now
